Project
We began our journey by descending towards the plain which in antiquity was called Megalopolis...
Today, the Municipality of Megalopoli comprises the municipal units of Megalopoli, Falaisia and Gortyna. The project focuses on the events that took place within the present-day boundaries of the Municipality of Megalopoli; there are, however, several references to places, events and people active outside these boundaries, because the administration at the time of the Revolution was organised differently. At that time, Arcadia consisted of the vilayets (provinces) of Karytaina, Leontari, Tripolitsa, Agios Petros and Prastos. With the project “Digital historical exhibits, multimedia applications, encyclopaedia / blog on the history of the revolutionary years, to be hosted in the modern multi-purpose venue / museum for history, culture, art and technology”, the Municipality of Megalopoli is implementing a project with cultural and educational content, whose central aim is to highlight the history of the revolutionary years of 1821 in the area of the Municipality. The project involves the creation of digital exhibits that showcase the cultural heritage of Megalopoli through cutting-edge technology, offering visitors a hands-on encounter with the history of the area. Its implementation includes the collection, digitisation, documentation and systematisation of the area’s rich cultural resources, the creation of a concise historical repository recording the historical landmarks of the Municipality of Megalopoli, and the development of innovative digital applications. As part of the project, digital exhibits and applications of an entertaining and educational nature have already been created. Historical material was collected and organised in a Web Portal with an integrated digital encyclopaedia/blog, where the important historical landmarks of the Municipality are presented as entries. In addition, two 3D Virtual Reality (VR) productions were developed for headsets, on the Battle of Drampala and the Battle of the Pass of Agios Athanasios, as well as an interactive multimedia application that allows navigation on a digital map with points of interest and 360° tours. The project aims to give visitors a hands-on encounter with the history of the area, while also helping to strengthen the tourism profile of the Municipality of Megalopoli and its dynamic presence in the digital age. It is being implemented by the Foundation of the Hellenic World and Talent S.A.
